You might be asking, "What is a facilitator?" One definition seems to sum up the concept: A facilitator makes the material easy to understand. Although this is a simplified definition, the road to this destination is challenging but exciting. A facilitator must be more familiar with the material to be related than anyone in the class. That doesn't mean a facilitator has to be a subject matter expert or have a degree in the material. What it does mean is that the person presenting the material must have read and become familiar with what is to be covered and understand what should be accomplished in each session. A facilitator must be willing to invest whatever time is necessary to ensure any class material is prepared well before the session, the group meeting room is set up prior to class meeting time, and students know what are the expectations of the group. In other words, you always give the group your best effort because you are the conduit through which Jesus Christ provides the way to salvation and freedom. A facilitator must be able to exhibit the type of agape love for people that our Lord Jesus Christ demonstrated while here on earth. We are all sinners saved by grace, and facilitators are not expected to be perfect just forgiven and willing to make that forgiveness "easy to understand" to others. Finally and most importantly, a facilitator must be a person of prayer. Prayer must reinforce the call to become a facilitator. Prayer must preceed every group session. Prayer must be offered for each member of the group. Prayer must constanstly invite the leadership and attendance of the Holy Spirit into each group session. Doing everything you can to prepare. asking the Lord to do everything you cannot do to make the message of Jesus Christ clear to burdened and hurting people, that is "what" a facilitator is.
