Recently I read an article that interested me. I copied it and edited it to be a challenge to the folks reading this newsletter that is interested in reduciing recidivism. Unfortunately I did not record the source or the author of the article. So hopefully I will not be exposed for plagarism but I did want to share the article with the readers of our newsletter. So please read the following. Cutting recidivism saves money and lives If two-thirds of public school students dropped out, or two-thirds of all bridges built collapsed within three years, would citizens tolerate it? The people of Florida would never stand for that kind of failure. But that is exactly what is happening all across the U.S. in our prison systems. Last year hundreds of inmates with substance abuse problems were released from Florida’s prisons to re-enter our communities. If trends of the past decade continue, two-thirds of them will be rearrested within three years. |

The past weekend was awesome. I was privileged to observe a miracle that only God could do. It was through Christian 12 Step jail ministery that a volunteer spent time to lead a recovery group and an inmate chose to listen and heed the words of the facilitator. Saturday I attended the college graduation of that particular inmate. He graduated with honors and is now training as a candidate for ordination to the ministry. When I review his rap sheet for past offenses and observe where he is today it is an undeniable miracle that only an all powerful God could perform. Let me encourage all volunteers serving in jails and prisons all across the world that you have answered the call to share the good news but it takes the workings of our all sufficient God to regenerate the heart. We are called to be obedient not successful. |

It is here at last !!!!!!!!!! The wonderful time of year when God's creation in nature is renewed. Just to see all of the new growth and smell the fresh fragrant air is an encouragement in itself. We too can be renewed and fresh and fragrant. Not just in the springtime but at any time we decide to ask JESUS CHRIST into our life. He is the renewer of all things. He is the wonderful fragrance of LIFE and FREEDOM and JOY and LOVE and PEACE and all things GOOD and RIGHT. Get renewed today. Do that Spring cleaning in your soul by asking JESUS to sweep away the old and make you new again. You only need to ask Him once and He will do it. With Joy in Serving, Abbie |

A great time of inspiration and fellowship was enjoyed by a large number of members of our community including local church pastors, faith based ministry staff as well as local and state officials that attended a recent breakfast hosted by the Christian 12 Step Ministry. Chaplain Larry Durham (Marion Correctional Institution), Chaplain Sam Franklin (Marion County Jail), and Sheriff Ed Dean (Marion County) presented an inspirational challenge of utilizing faith based ministries to impact the lives of the incarcerated. If two thirds of our high school students dropped out of school prior to graduation or if two thirds of our roads became impassable in our county or if two thirds of the bridges on our interstate highway system were to collapse over a brtief period of time there would be a public outcry to do something. However, we seem to overlook the fact that two thirds of inmates in the prison system return to prison within five years of their release. Where is the public outcry? |

As we struggle to acknowledge our need for help, it becomes very important that we have hope. We need to have hope that the help we need is available. Without this hope, we will not have the strength or courage to get help. |
